John Muir's life and work has inspired people all over the world.  Discover how the boy born in this house became one of the driving forces behind the global conservation movement.  Our absorbing hands on interpretation centre will take you on the journey of John Muir's life as a pioneering conservationist, explorer, writer, geologist and inventor.  Our friendly, well informed staff are always on hand to help and answer questions. The building is fully accessible with three floors of family friendly interactive displays complemented by a lively exhibition and activityprogramme and a shop offering books and gifts for all ages.


Opening Hours

April to September 2023:

Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm)

Sunday 1pm to 5pm (last entry 4.30pm).

October 2023 to March 2024*: 

Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 2.15pm, 

Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12.45pm to 5pm

*Closed 25th December to 2nd January inclusive
