Diversion at Rough Castle for sound and light event ‘Legion’

Diversion at Rough Castle for sound and light event ‘Legion’

29 October 2018

*Updated 17 December  2018 - Diversion no longer in place*

Kilsyth to Falkirk Section

A section of the John Muir Way at Rough Castle and the Falkirk Wheel will be closed between 17:00 and 22:00 every Wednesday to Sunday from 6th November until 16th December 2018. The closure is to accommodate a sound and light event ‘Legion’ taking place in the Rough Castle Community Woodland. This is a ticketed event organised by Rough Castle Experiences, and there will be no access through the site on the John Muir Way walking and cycling braids. Details and a map of the event are available here.

As the closure will operate during the hours of darkness, impact on the John Muir Way is expected to be low. Walkers or cyclists using the JMW at this time are advised to bypass the closure by following the Forth & Clyde Canal towpath between Bonnybridge and the Falkirk Wheel (the JMW east-bound normally leaves the towpath at Bonnybridge), crossing to the south side of the canal at the Falkirk Wheel (this bridge will remain open until 22:00 during the event), and following the Falkirk Wheel access road to re-join the JMW at Lime Road. This diversion will operate in both directions for walkers and cyclists. See map of the diverted route here.
