Section 5: Falkirk to Linlithgow

As part of Scottish Canals' ongoing resilience building work on the Union Canal following the breach in August 2020, there are diversions now in place at Woodcockdale Weir and Glen Village. These are in addition to the ongoing closure of the towpath between Brightons and Almond Road, which is expected to fully reopen in March 2021.

Woodcockdale Weir

This closure affects the section of towpath between Linlithgow and the Avon Aqueduct. This section will be closed until the end of February 2021. An alternative route can be found using the signposted John Muir Way walking route along the River Avon Heritage Trail that runs between the eastern end of the aqueduct and Linlithgow Bridge. Please note this is an unpaved narrow footpath with stairs at both ends and cyclists may wish to plan a different route.

Glen Village

A short section of the towpath at Glen Village is closed until the end of February 2021. A diversion is in place along Hallglen Road.
