Temporary diversion - Balloch to Strathblane Section

Temporary diversion - Balloch to Strathblane Section

16 November 2018

*Updated 20 December  2018 - Diversion no longer in place*

Flooding at Auchineden (Balloch to Strathblane section)

A section of the John Muir Way walking route between Balloch and Strathblane is currently impassable due to flooding from a blocked water channel and broken bridge. This is at NS517792 in Auchineden Estate, between Edenmill farm shop and Carbeth/A809. We are working with the landowner to address this. In the meantime, this section of the John Muir Way is closed, and all users are diverted via the John Muir Way cycle route for the Balloch to Strathblane section. This leaves the main JMW to the east of Balloch and goes via Croftamie, Gartness and Dumgoyne (partly on the West Highland Way) to re-join the main JMW route at Carbeth. See a map of the diversion here. (It is possible to by-pass the flooded section by taking the Auchineden access road to the A809 and following the A809 to Carbeth, this is a busy road without a pavement and so this is not recommended.)

Day walkers / cyclists setting off from Carbeth on the west-bound JMW can by-pass the flood by parking instead at the Edenmill farm shop (signed from A809 north of Carbeth). The west-bound JMW is open from Edenmill through to Burncrooks Reservoir and beyond.
