A short walk from the John Muir Way between the Prestonpans Murals and Levenhall Links Nature Reserve, this 5-star campsite is an excellent place to overnight for backpackers, cyclists and walkers on the John Muir Way. Dog-friendly campsite near Edinburgh open all-year. Located in a secluded and peaceful setting in the grounds of an old monastery, the site is beautifully landscaped and is a low noise site, with a quiet site policy after 10.30pm.

This large, peaceful site has plenty of space for tents, including backpackers and cyclists. Both amenity blocks have been extensively refurbished and have free no-push hot water showers, family/accessible bathrooms with baths, laundry and an indoor campers’ kitchen with bench seating, microwave, toaster, kettle and vending machines. Secure bike storage and EV charging point. Free WiFi.

Range of accommodation to suit all budgets for walkers and cyclists. Lots of tent pitches, all with electric, some with partial sea views as well as innovative glamping pods and bothies with electric, heating, kettle, toaster and microwave and comfortable beds for both solo, couple and family walkers. The deluxe glamping bothies even have an en-suite toilet and real bed. The Solo Octo pods are perfect for single travellers and backpackers. 

On site is a dog walk, hot water dog wash, children’s playground, Information Room and small licensed shop selling essentials and a range of local produce. Range of amenities in Musselburgh and Prestonpans and many takeaways deliver to the site entrance.

To reach Drummohr simply look for the tall brick chimney of the Preston Grange Mining Museum, leave the John Muir Way at this point and follow Drummohr House Road to the right of the chimney (with the sea behind you), Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site is on your right.

The site entrance is just a 5-minute walk from the bus stop into Edinburgh and a 20-minute walk from Wallyford train station where trains to Waverley take just 10 minutes. Musselburgh 2 miles, Prestonpans is 1 mile and has a range of amenities.

Prices start at £12 a night for a backpacker tent pitch, £40 a night for a Single Octo Pod and £50 a night for a Double Hexi Pod. Our deluxe bothies with WC start at £65 a night. Dogs welcome FOC on our tent and touring pitches. No dogs in our Octo or Hexi pods or our Deluxe bothies. Maximum 1 well behaved dog in our family glamping bothies. Linen, croc boxes, BBQs and fire pits available for hire.

In 2024 Drummohr was voted Scottish campsite of the year by Pitch Up and UK campsite of the year by readers of Camping magazine.


Opening Hours

Our campsite is open all year. We accept arrivals up until 8pm.
