Born in 2005, Belhaven Bikes is based in John Muir's birthplace Dunbar, East Lothian. We serve our community and beyond, specialising in bike and ebike sales, servicing, repairs and hire.

Whether you are looking to cycle a section of the John Muir Way or the full coast to coast route we have a selection of comfort and hardtail mountain bikes suited to the trail's terrain. Ebikes are also available.

Our hire bikes are fitted with full mudguards, a rear rack and have puncture resistant tyres. The rental package includes: a pannier, pump, spare tube, tyre levers, lock, multi tool, an East Lothian Spokes Map and a John Muir Way map which shows the Dunbar to Helensburgh coast to coast route. There are additional panniers and helmets available to hire if those are required and if you'd like a John Muir Way passport to record your trip just let us know.

Delivery and ‘One Way’ hire, including for the John Muir Way trail, which incorporates a collection and/or pick up can be arranged subject to availability. Please contact us to enquire about these services.

Our bike hire prices start from £8 per half day.

In addition to our hire service we sell bikes, ebikes, scooters and skateboards for all generations to have fun on and love to give a wide choice so all tastes and budgets are catered for. Demo ebikes are available for test rides too.

Our honest, professional service can help you choose the right bike or product for you. A variety of ‘Cycle to Work’ schemes are available. Alternatively, we offer Finance from 0%. As part of our service we ensure your bike is fully built for your collection or delivery. A free 6 week service is included and, of course, a full warranty. We’re a member of the Association of Cycle Traders too.

We can also get you back on the road again after a service or repairs in our Cytech Accredited workshop. A wheelbuilding service is also available. For our John Muir Way visitors if you would like your bike serviced before you depart, on your return or if you need any advice just get in touch. We also offer collection and delivery.

Our specialist ebike training enables us to handle electric bike servicing and repairs in addition to our Cytech Technician status. We have diagnostic software which can run service interval reports on Bosch, Shimano and Yamaha equipped e-bikes as well as perform updates/run reports.

We are mindful of keeping our business low impact so we recycle/re-use parts, cardboard, metal, paper, tyres and use environmentally friendly products.

We’re proud to be a John Muir Way Passport Retailer and Stamping Station and look forward to meeting visitors as they embark on the trail from Dunbar or as they complete their journey in John Muir’s home town of Dunbar.

To welcome Passport holders, and our John Muir Way cycle hire customers, we are offering 50% discount on our branded water bottles.

Keeping hydrated while out cycling and walking on the trail is essential. Free water bottle top-ups are also available from our water cooler in-store. We’re located on the Refill app which you can access through the Refill website and offers you the opportunity to find other water bottle refill stations along the trail.
